David Marsh Notes

He encourages his swimmers to play water polo in the fall

The Foundations of Swimming

  • Nutrition and rest
  • Build non-swimming athleticism
  • Body composition
  • Mental training
He likes distance per stroke work early in the season.

Noted that every athlete that achieved greatness had a coach/person who believed in them. Talked about the power of belief.

Likes to throw in the occasional short practice with a very, very hard main set. People will absolutely hammer if they know that is all they have to do.

Loehr -- Mental Toughness

Always points out to his team that "someone will make the Olympic team who is less talented than the weakest person in this room".

It is better to have real confidence than fake confidence but fake confidence is better than nothing. Always carry yourself like a winner.
