All Quiet on the Southern Front

I think I have been in Cairns for a week now. Tough to say for sure as some of you have pointed out to me that "everyday is a weekend these days in gordoworld." Well, that is true and false. I must admit that my stress level is zero and I am getting that "Boulder" feeling back.

It's not 100% accurate to say that every day is a vacation. I have a number of pet projects - coming soon to an Internet forum near you! Combine these with my coaching business (I love you guys) and there is plenty to keep me occupied. I have even fallen behind on my writing a little. Of course, that is completely my fault because I have been enjoying a bit of a break from it. Falling behind suggests that there is a schedule, so that's a bit inaccurate too. A better way to put it, is that I have a ton of ideas in my head for little articles. I just haven't sat down to write them.

Here is a little writer's insight. I used to worry that if I wrote all my ideas down I would run out. Kind of like creativity being an hourglass. I was thinking that I should ration my story ideas. Hone them one-by-one, craft them over time, limit myself to one a month and hoard the others (much like rock climbers on new routes). Now I just bring them down and send them off to my cyber-wingman for editing. I feel so much better! I get the satisfaction of expression, and am able to move on to the next point in my head. Someday I will be ready for the sustained effort required for a book or novel, but for now, I love my little articles. They aren't all classics, but they are fun. Want to learn how to write better? Just write. Bob Mina taught me that by example.

So as the Southern Cali homies would say... whassup in g-world?

Cairns is fantastic and I am really glad I came. This town isn't for everyone, but if I manage to qualify for Kona, I know where I'll be doing my pre-race acclimatization. I've even managed to get the hang of saying it properly - "cans." If you listen to the locals, you can hear them pronounce all the letters, but as a foreigner, just say Cans.
